The Truth About Ceramic Coatings
Just like it happens with any kind of breakthrough, people begin to assume things and exaggerate possibilities when it comes to new products.
There are misconceptions about what this kind of protection does and does not cover.
Many of these times it’s just a matter of common sense, but nevertheless, it’s worth mentioning.
Even the best ceramic coating does not make your car bulletproof, and certainly, it is not some magic solve-it-all product that will get rid of all potential hazards your surface is exposed to.
The truth is not every vehicle will benefit from it.
Just because your vehicle has gone through the ceramic treatment it doesn’t mean you no longer need to dust, wash or remove bird droppings.
You still do!
But the major difference lies in the fact that maintaining your paint will require less elbow grease and less time.
Now that we’re talking about what you will never find in ceramic coatings, here are some myths people occasionally have about them, just in case you were wondering.
Ceramic Car Coatings Are Scratch Proof.
A lot of detailers and suppliers exaggerate the scratch resistance properties of Si02 Nano Ceramic Coatings for cars, even going so far as to call them scratch-proof or resistant to rock chips which is completely false.
Sure, small scratches can definitely be resisted by a Nano Ceramic Coating and the sacrificial layer the coating forms will certainly help against minor incidents that would otherwise affect your surface.
But nothing more than that, you still have to be careful with it.
Nano Coatings for your Car Don’t Require Maintenance.
Ceramic coated cars do not require washing or maintenance.
That would be true in another reality, in this one there’s no escaping dirt, dust, and other particles floating around to end up on the surface of your car.
A ceramic coating will heavily cut down on the amount of washing and maintenance but not completely eliminate the need for it.
The fact is if you are going to drive your car, even if it’s infrequently, since the road is dirty, the surface of your car is going to gradually get dirtier even with a ceramic coat.
So, as long as you own a car, it’s going to need an occasional wash.
Car Coatings Last For A Long Time .
This one is partially true, but as it was mentioned, it highly depends on you.
The coating is actually semi-permanent, designed to last from months to years with very occasional maintenance, as it bonds with the car surface and cures into a hard and shiny sacrificial layer.
That means that you don’t have to re-apply every other month to maintain that glossy surface we all dream about.
