Definition of strength limit
Ultimate strength refers to the maximum stress that occurs when an object is damaged under the action of an external force. It can also be called the failure strength or the failure stress. The maximum ability of a material to resist external damage is collectively called the strength limit. When the external force is tensile, it is called the tensile strength limit; when it is compressed, it is called the compressive strength limit; when it is bent, it is called the bending strength limit: when it is sheared, it is called the shear strength limit.
