Quantum Definition

Light quantum is the basic particle that transfers electromagnetic interaction and is a gauge boson. It was proposed by Einstein in 1905 and officially named by American physical chemist Gilbert Louis in 1926.

Photons are carriers of electromagnetic radiation, and in quantum field theory photons are considered to be mediators of electromagnetic interaction. The rest mass of the photon is zero. Photons move at the speed of light and have energy, momentum, and mass.
