The main role of the air filter
The engine should suck in a large amount of air during the working process. If the air is not filtered, the dust suspended in the air is sucked into the cylinder, which will accelerate the wear of the piston group and the cylinder. Larger particles enter between the piston and the cylinder, causing a serious "cylinder" phenomenon, which is especially severe in dry and sandy working environments. The air filter is installed in front of the carburetor or the intake pipe to filter out dust and sand in the air to ensure sufficient and clean air in the cylinder.
Among the thousands of parts of a car, the air filter is a very inconspicuous part, because it is not directly related to the technical performance of the car, but in the actual use of the car, the air filter is on the car. The service life of the engine (especially the engine) has a great impact. On the one hand, if there is no filtering effect of the air filter, the engine will inhale a lot of air containing dust and particles, causing serious wear of the engine cylinder; on the other hand, if it is not used for maintenance for a long time during use, the air filter The filter element of the cleaner will stick to the dust in the air, which not only reduces the filtering ability, but also hinders the circulation of the air, resulting in the mixture being too rich and the engine not working properly. Therefore, maintaining the air filter on schedule is critical.
Air filters are generally available in both paper and oil bath styles. Paper filters have been widely used because of their high filtration efficiency, light weight, low cost, and easy maintenance. The filtration efficiency of the paper filter is as high as 99.5%, and the filtration efficiency of the oil bath filter is 95-96% under normal conditions. The air filter widely used in cars is a paper filter, which is divided into dry and wet. For dry filter elements, once immersed in oil or moisture, the filtration resistance will increase sharply. Therefore, avoid contact with moisture or oil when cleaning, otherwise new parts must be replaced.
When the engine is running, the intake air is intermittent, causing air vibration in the air cleaner housing. If the air pressure fluctuates too much, it sometimes affects the intake air of the engine. In addition, the intake noise will also increase at this time. In order to suppress the intake noise, the volume of the air cleaner housing may be increased, and some partitions may be disposed therein to reduce resonance.
The filter element of the air filter is divided into a dry filter element and a wet filter element. The dry filter material is filter paper or non-woven fabric. In order to increase the air passage area, the filter element is mostly processed with many small folds. When the filter element is slightly defaced, it can be blown off with compressed air. When the filter element is seriously fouled, the new core should be replaced in time.
The wet filter element is made of sponge-like polyurethane material. When installing it, add some oil and mix it by hand to absorb foreign matter in the air. If the filter element is dirty, it can be cleaned with cleaning oil. If it is too dirty, it should be replaced with a new one.
If the filter element is severely blocked, the intake resistance will increase and the engine power will drop. At the same time, due to the increase of the air resistance, the amount of gasoline sucked in is also increased, resulting in an excessively rich mixture ratio, which deteriorates the engine running state, increases fuel consumption, and is prone to coke formation. Usually, you should develop the habit of checking the air filter element frequently.
